STAINLESS STEEL BASEPLATE & MOUNTING RING ASSEMBLY FOR AM15 / AM11 / AM180 PLASTIC DRUMS

STAINLESS STEEL BASEPLATE & MOUNTING RING ASSEMBLY FOR AM15 / AM180 PLASTIC DRUMS

Plastic AM180/AM15 drums work fine for holding lots of ammo and letting you see how many rounds are in the drum but under spring pressure, the base plate has a tendency to flex which will cause your AM15 to jam a bullet into the feed block.

Our STAINLESS STEEL BASEPLATES are perfect replacements that require no tools to easily replace the plastic baseplate.  Stainless steel base plates provide an extremely slippery and durable surface.  They come complete with stainless mounting ring, springs and required hardware to retrofit your plastic drum.   They work identically on all size drum capacities including 165, 220 and 275.  No corners or shortcuts were taken on these baseplate assemblies.  The result based on materials and fit is better than the original steel drum baseplates.

Try a STAINLESS STEEL BASEPLATE and you'll soon have them on all your drums!

NOTE: Plastic drum will need to have each plastic ammunition divider on the plastic drum trimmed about .040 for clearance which can easily and quickly be accomplished with a razor knife or similar.

I was having tons of trouble with my new SAR180. I ordered 2 of these and now my gun runs. I think the metal locks to the gun better and does not flex at all which helps align everything just right to ensure proper feeding of the rounds. I also like the spring design on these plates better than the plastic "fingers" that retain the winder on the plastic drums.

AM15 / AM11 / AM180 PLASTIC DRUM MODIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS
FOR USE WITH TACTICAL INNOVATIONS
STAINLESS STEEL BASEPLATE ASSEMBLY

The AM15 uses the same drums as the American 180 family of firearms.  However, the plastic drum will NOT interchangeably use plastic vs. metal baseplates without minimal modifications.

- PLASTIC DRUM WITH PLASTIC BASEPLATE

If you are using an E&L plastic drum with the original plastic baseplate, no changes or modifications are required.  Although no modifications are required, we do not recommend the use of the plastic baseplates.  They have proven to not be sufficiently ridged and you will encounter a much higher failure to feed rate which can easily be minimized by replacing the plastic baseplate with our stainless steel baseplate assembly.

 - PLASTIC DRUM WITH TACTICAL INNOVATIONS STAINLESS STEEL BASEPLATE

You can easily swap the plastic baseplate for one of our stainless baseplate assemblies (Part # 00535) which will eliminate flex in the baseplate and will greatly increase feeding reliability.  We recommend this upgrade and do not encourage the use of the plastic baseplates.  When upgrading to our stainless steel baseplate assembly, you will have to slightly modify the drum to provide clearance between the ammunition dividers and the baseplate.

With the drum disassembled, use a utility razor knife to carefully trim approx. .030 to .040 off of the bottom of each of ONLY THE OUTSIDE plastic dividers that keep the ammunition stacked in neat rows.  The measurement is not critical as long as you are in the 30 to 40 thou range.  With the drum on a table, use a utility knife to cut the divider as it is at the bottom of the drum against the table and then simply rotate the drum by one divider and cut the next one over and over until you have completed all dividers in the drum.  For E&L manufactured drums, there coincidentally is a line in the plastic drum at the correct location that the divider should be trimmed to.  Refer to the pictures below for an example of how and where to trim as well as a picture of two divider fins that have already been trimmed.

If you decide to use the plastic drums with a metal baseplate without trimming the .030 to .040 off of each of the plastic divider fins, you run the risk of the ammo breaking the dividers from the winder putting too much force on the divider.  Once a divider breaks, there is no way to replace or repair them and the drum will continue to decrease in reliability as more of the dividers break until the drum is no longer serviceable.  You should modify the drum for clearance at the same time you retrofit it with a stainless steel baseplate.
